Using the Data Library

This is a WWW server for data: it lets you search for and examine the available data in a number of ways. It not only serves copies of datasets and subsets thereof (since many times the sheer size of a dataset can be a barrier to its use), but it also serves data as many kinds of figures, after filtering with various calculations, and as tables and other datafiles.

Increasing Levels of Sophistication

Simply - following links and operating controls lets one do a vast number of manipulations to the data in the library.
Savvy - users can access their own datasets as well.
Literate - use includes using the underlying language to quickly do anything that can be done by following links, as well as constructions that cannot yet be done with the simple interface. The language is specifically designed to manipulate gridded datasets.
Creative - users can make "live" documents and add their own definitions, allowing them to create their own interface to whatever data manipulations they would like to do.
